Time is running out…

What is going on?

This world is not getting better, and it's not because of the disruptions associated with covid, unchecked crime, or the political angst that has this nation divided in two. No, the real reason this world is becoming more and more difficult to live in is because of one major guiding principle--sin, and the world's embrace of it. The effects of that sin are everywhere, increased violence, broken families, and the degradation of our society and culture.

The Bible says that things are not going to get better; in fact, the Bible has more to say about the time period we are currently living in than any other time period in history. Speaking of the time before the return of Christ, the Bible says:

“This know also, that in the last days perilous [hard to bear; dangerous] times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent [no self-control], fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady [reckless], highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God” (2 Timothy 3:1-4).

While some could argue that those verses could fit any period in history (after all, there has always been sin), the intensity of those sins, however, cannot reach the overall depravity of today.

Jesus also talked about the time before His return (Matthew 24), and He listed a variety of indicators that also would increase in intensity:

  • Spiritual deception (verses 4-5, 11),

  • Wars and rumors of wars (verses 5-7),

  • Famines, pestilences, and earthquakes (verse 7),

  • Persecution of Christians (verses 9-10),

  • Sin abounding (verse 12),

  • The love of others growing cold (verse 12).

The Bible even predicts how the world will respond to the promises of Christ’s second coming during the last days:

“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation” (2 Peter 3-4).

I pray that attitude does not describe you. I would love to share more with you about the end times, but if you do not know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior it would be missing the point. You must get saved. No one knows what tomorrow may bring, and the Bible is very clear that to not accept Christ as one’s Savior is to die in one’s sins and to be separated from God forever in hell (John 3:36).

First, understand that being a “good person” does not cut it. The Bible says:

  • “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23);

  • “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one” (Romans 3:10).

What are the consequences of sin?

  • “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

What did God do to pay for my sin?

  • “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

Then how do I get saved?

  • “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:9-10).

If I just prayed this, how do I really know I’m saved?

  • “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13, emphasis added).

How do I grow in my faith in Christ?

  • “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17, emphasis added).
